Coffee has been an integral part of my life for decades. I started drinking it during my last year of high school and never looked back. In my late teens and early 20’s, I worked in the food industry. Coffee was always there to get me through the late shifts. Once I started working the job I’ve had since then, coffee was always there to keep me company.
I’ve never been into coffee as a hobby, though. I’ve seen and even tried some of the equipment and methods a typical aficionado might use to make their cup o’ joe. I’m quite content with pre-ground beans and a Mr. Coffee drip machine. I will say that I did find a local roaster that use now. I like to support local businesses when I can. Buying from them is a no brainer.
Now that I’m in my 60’s, coffee, or more specifically, caffeine, has become a problem. My doctor wants me to cut back on the caffeine. I’ve always scoffed at decaf, glibly saying “What’s the point?” I suppose that at this juncture in my life, extending my life is the point. I came up with a game plan that’s been working so far. Whether brewing at home or stopping at my local shop, I’ve been slowly adding decaf to my daily cup, increasing the decaf/caf ratio until I reach Full Decaf, which happened today.
Wish me luck.
